15 PDUs in each three-year cycle

A Professional Development Unit (PDU) is a one-hour block of qualifying professional development. CAPM holders need 15 PDUs during each three-year certification cycle.

  • At least 9 PDUs must be Education PDUs.
  • No more than 6 PDUs may be from Giving Back activities.
  • Earn at least 2 PDUs in each PMI Talent Triangle skill area: Ways of Working, Power Skills, and Business Acumen.

Choose qualifying activities

Education can include relevant courses, webinars, reading, and other learning. Giving Back can include qualifying volunteering, sharing knowledge, and creating content. Check the rules and limits for each activity before claiming PDUs.

Keep records of your learning and claim only eligible activities. Spreading your learning across the cycle is easier than leaving everything until renewal.

Report and renew

Certification renewal and PMI membership renewal are separate. Always check PMI’s current requirements for your credential.

  • Record qualifying PDUs in PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS).
  • Check your certification cycle dates and remaining requirements.
  • Follow PMI’s renewal instructions and pay the renewal fee.
  • Keep your email address up to date in your PMI account.
