Start with the exam outline

Download the PMI Exam Content Outline and work through the tasks in each domain. Mark the concepts you understand and those that need more attention.

The following is a suggested study approach, not a PMI-prescribed schedule or a promise of passing. Adapt it to your background and available time.

Build your foundation

Choose a current course or study guide that explicitly covers all four CAPM domains. If you also need education hours, check whether the course provides qualifying hours and a completion certificate.

Explain each concept in your own words. Connect it to a work, school, or volunteer project so that you understand how it would be used.

Practice, then review the reasoning

A third-party practice score is a study signal, not an official prediction of your exam result.

  • Answer practice questions across all four domains.
  • Review why each answer is right or wrong, rather than memorizing the option.
  • Keep a list of difficult topics and revisit the relevant lessons.
  • Try timed practice to learn how to manage your attention and pace.

Choose your materials thoughtfully

PMI provides exam preparation options on its CAPM page. The exam outline also includes a reference list; it states that reading every listed book is not a requirement.

For additional practice, compare resources such as Pocket Prep and CAPM courses on Udemy. Check the content version, coverage, pricing, and refund policy directly with the provider. Listing a resource here is not an endorsement.

Make time for a final review

  • Review your notes and recurring mistakes.
  • Revisit each exam domain—not only your favorite topics.
  • Check your appointment, identification requirements, and exam delivery rules.
  • Leave time to rest before your exam.
